Sunday, 12 December, 2021 marked the day Wema’s beloved Wemathon made its comeback. The fundraising event which was held at the Butterfly Pavillion, Bamburi, aimed to increase awareness on Wema’s program delivery and the plight street connected children face. It offered its participants the opportunity to compete for charity in three areas; cycling, running and walking (that of the speed variety of course). The 6th Wemathon was well attended by school children, individuals and corporate teams who not only took part in the three events, but were also treated to good music, Zumba, cross fit, children entertainment, face painting and snacks. The event was kicked off at 8:00 am by Wema’s Fundraising Committee Chairman-Mr. Nick Munyi, after a brief but thorough warm up.
The cyclists started first, giving them ample time to tackle the 21km track followed by the 10km runners and finally, the 5km walkers. The competition was stiff in all race categories, adults and children of all ages battled it out for first to third place. Wait, did I not mention that there were prizes to be won by children and adults in all three categories? Well, now I have. The competition concluded with all first to second runners up winners in all three categories captured (adults and children separately) in preparation for the prize and award giving ceremony.
The prize and award giving ceremony celebrated not only the competition winners but also the schools that raised the most money and all the corporates that sponsored the event. That being said we would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the following sponsors once again.
