WEMA CENTRE HOSTS MEDICAL CAMP FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN

On Friday, 15th May 2026, Wema Centre hosted its first-ever medical camp through the generous support of Ushiriki Wema, an initiative led by Her Excellency Madam Tessie Musalia in partnership with Huduma Centre and Equity Afya.

The camp was staffed by two clinical officers and two nurses who provided comprehensive health screenings, medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and medication where necessary. In addition, Huduma Centre offered birth registration services to help address one of the major challenges faced by street-connected children in obtaining birth certificates.

Many vulnerable children lack birth certificates due to factors such as the absence of parental responsibility, missing identification documents, family separation, or abandonment. Without this critical document, children often face significant barriers in accessing essential services, including education, healthcare, and legal protection. The birth registration initiative therefore provided an important opportunity to begin addressing these challenges and safeguarding children’s rights.

The outreach benefited 250 children from the Mwakirunge Dumpsite community, as well as children under the care of Wema Centre and members of staff. Services offered included general medical examinations, urine analysis, diagnosis, treatment, and the provision of medication where required.

This medical camp marked an important milestone for Wema Centre and a significant step toward improving access to healthcare services for vulnerable children living in Mwakirunge. Through partnerships such as these, Wema Centre continues to work toward ensuring that every child has access to the care, protection, and opportunities they need to thrive.
