To rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate street-Connected children into mainstream society

The Wema Centre has two decades of experience in interventions related to street-connected children and a team of well-trained and qualified social services experts who possess extensive experience working with not only street-connected children, but also with County and National governments, faith-based organizations, volunteer placement organizations, learning institutions, and the media, making Wema stand out as an impressive and valuable organization.

Wema Centre started its operations in 1993 by providing care to only 6 street-connected girls. Over time, the organization has expanded its services to encompass street and community outreach, educational support, healthcare, and vocational training. Today, Wema Centre’s programs benefit over 500 children, both directly and indirectly, representing a remarkable growth from its modest beginnings.

In recognition of the impact of Wema’s work and its commitment to transform street children and other vulnerable young people into fulfilled and responsible adults, Wema Centre was awarded The Kellogg’s Child Development Award in New York by The World of Children Inc, and Lucy Yinda (the founder of Wema Centre) was awarded the Head of State Commendation medal by former Kenyan President H.E Mwai Kibaki, in 2005.
