Wema Children’s Journey to the National Stage

This year, the Wema Children’s Choir and Dance Troupe embarked on an incredible adventure—the 2025 Kenya Music Festivals. Their journey began at Bamburi Primary, the first stage of the competition at Sub-County level. With passion in their voices and joy in their steps, they presented 10 items and triumphed in 9. The choir’s heartfelt renditions of Sing Unto the Lord, Marvellous, and Mashujaa filled the hall with music, while the dancers dazzled with the Borana Dance, Goma Dance, Chivoti-Flute Solo, and Kikuyu Folk Song.

But the story didn’t end there. With spirits high, the children advanced to the County level in Likoni, performing at Likoni Visual Impaired and Puma Schools. Here, they showcased eight items and captured five wins. Once again, Sing Unto the Lord and Marvellous lifted the crowd in song, while the Borana Dance, Chivoti-Flute Solo, and Kikuyu Folk Song mesmerized the judges with their energy and grace.

Their victories earned them a place on the Regional stage in Taita Taveta on June 30th. Armed with drums, flutes, and fearless hearts, the children travelled to Kenyatta High School, where they performed five items. Their efforts bore fruit once more—four wins! The choir’s voices in Sing Unto the Lord and Marvellous soared to new heights, while the Borana Dance and Chivoti-Flute Solo left audiences breathless. This triumph secured them a coveted ticket to the National stage in Meru.

With excitement brimming, the Wema children packed their bags and instruments once more for Meru. On the grand National stage, they performed their four winning items and achieved positions—2nd, 6th, 8th, and 9th place. Their hard work and talent were celebrated with a Certificate of Merit, awarded for surpassing the minimum National marks, alongside Certificates of Participation for every performer.

From Bamburi to Meru, the Wema Children’s Choir and Dance Troupe have shown that with determination, teamwork, and faith, dreams truly take flight. And though this chapter closes with well-earned honors, the future still holds even greater songs to sing and dances to share.
