Day of the African Child, 2016

Posted on It was on this date 16 June 1976 In Soweto, South Africa that thousands of black school children took to the streets to protest about the inferior quality of their education and to demand their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of them were shot down; and in the two weeks of protest that followed, more than a hundred people were killed and more than a thousand injured.

To honor their courage and in memory of those killed, in 1991 African Union) established the Day of the African Child. The Day also draws attention to the lives of African children today and also remind our selves to protect the children rights for in every crisis our childre are affected in one way or the other. The Day of the African Child (DAC) 2016 will be observed Under the theme “ Conflict and Crisis in Africa: Protecting all Children’s Rights” .

In Mombasa County, the Celebrations will be held today at the Oil Refinery Grounds in Changamwe. The African child of today is vulnerable to many adversities. Let us strive to help them with our love. Let us guide them. They are the future adults and they will be exactly what the society is programming them to be. Happy International Day of the African Child!#Loveneverfails
