We have been doing our street visits through – The “DreamCatcher” Bus project- an innovative initiative aimed at empowering street children with basic numeracy and literacy skills. It has so far made a total of 200 street visits to Mombasa town since its launch in 2013. The outreach team has been able to mobilize and enrol a total of 228(186 males and 42 females) beneficiaries into the project.
Recently, we increased contact frequency with the Dream Catcher project beneficiaries i.e from the current 2 days (every Tuesdays and Thursday) to 5 weekdays (Mon-Friday) involving both going to the streets and bringing them to the main project site in Bamburi. Additional activities such as remedial education activities, health checkups, nutritional support, taekwondo, football, acrobatics, traditional dance training, life skills training through use of scouts club have been introduced so as to create a good framework where meaningful discussions and actions can be pursued. There has been an increase in number of children opting to move out of the streets and come to the main centre in Bamburi for the newly introduced activities whose photos are shared herein.
